How Neck Issues Can Cause Head Pain - and How Chiropractic Can Help

Headaches are one of the most common reasons people seek care, and for many patients, they're more than "just headaches."

In fact, some headaches actually start in the neck.

These are called cervicogenic headaches, and they're something we frequently treat at Hart & Hand Chiropractic in Tomball, Texas.

What is a Cervicogenic Headache?

A cervicogenic headache is head pain that originates from dysfunction in the cervical spine (neck).

Common contributing factors include:

  • Restricted or stiff neck joints

  • Tight or overworked neck and shoulder muscles

  • Irritation of nerves in the upper cervical spine

Because the neck and head share nerve pathways, issues in the neck can refer pain upwards, showing up as:

  • Pain at the base of the skull

  • Headaches that wrap around the head or behind the eyes

  • Head pain paired with neck stiffness or limited range of motion

Why These Headaches Are So Common

Many people spend long hours:

  • Sitting at desks

  • Looking down at phones

  • Driving or Commuting (especially in the Houston area!!)

Over time, this can reduce normal neck motion and increase tension - creating the perfect environment for cervicogenic headaches to develop.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help

At Hart & Hand Chiropractic, we focus on identifying where the headache is truly coming from.

Gentle, targeted chiropractic adjustments help:

  • Restore proper joint motion in the neck

  • Reduce muscle tension

  • Decrease irritation to surrounding nerves

For many patients, addressing the root cause in the neck leads to fewer headaches, reduced intensity, and improved overall comfort.

If headaches are affecting your daily life, we're here to help!
